Oklahoma Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

RDON started this conversation
The Oklahoma Department of Human Services, in cooperation with the Federal government, provides seasonal assistance to low-income households to assist with winter heating bills, and to provide help for some families who have received utility cut-off notices.

General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of Oklahoma. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is comprised of four components: Winter Heating Assistance, Energy Crisis Assistance, Summer Cooling and Weatherization (administered by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce). LIHEAP is Federally funded and benefits available are based on Federal funding each year. The maximum income standards are updated each year on October 1 using Federal guidelines. The current maximum annual income standards by household size before taxes must not exceed $21,660 if one person lives in the household; $29,140 if two people live in the household; $36,620 if three people live in the household; $44,100 if four people live in the household; $51,580 if five people live in the household; $59,060 if six people live in the household; $66,540 if seven people live in the household; and $74,020 if eight people live in the household. For larger households, add $3,740 for each additional person in the home.

I agree so much with you. I'm a genuine girl and I get minimal help from the government yet a person with 2-3 kids or more get it all without having to work a day in their lives.
I struggle to find work and don't get much help through my local jobcentre either. I'm nearly homeless with not a penny to live off. but they don't care I just get accomodated in hostels where I am under threat from drug ridden men and don't feel safe to go asleep at night. I'm trying to plead somebody to help me get a fresh start I think you have more success here in finding supportive & willing people then turning to your local authorities.

I am 63, retired, make $247 per month Social Security and I could not get help from this program this year. I have no idea how they chose who was eligible this year but I think the system stinks. There are people out there who get the help and just because they have a couple of kids they can get it. Many of them are probably illegal aliens. So all I can use this year is a small electric heater and am now in danger of getting the electric shut off. America need to change.
